Notes
• The Wolverines rank No. 16 nationally in the IWLCA Coaches Poll. Michigan split its Big Ten Conference games last week as it earned a comeback win against No. 21 Ohio State and fell to Penn State.
• Michigan's defense ranks 10th nationally in scoring defense giving up just 8.91 goals per game. The backline has forced 150 turnovers as Grace Callahan ranks 11th in the conference with 15 caused turnovers.
• Senior Jill Smith became the Michigan career points leader on a goal to kick off the scoring against Ohio State in the fourth quarter, recording seven points (three goals, four assists) -- all in the second half -- to bring her career total to 207. She passed Caitlin Muir, who recorded 203 points from 2018-22. The Farmington Hills, Mich. native, added four more goals to close out the weekend against Penn State to bring her career total to 211.
• U-M used a 10-1 run against Ohio State in the second half to secure the 14-7 victory and its third win over a ranked opponent this season. The Wolverine defense did not give up a goal for more than 33 minutes as the Wolverines scored nine straight to lock up the win. Smith recorded seven points in the second half of play, while Kaylee Dyer and Julia Schwabe each added four points, with Dyer scoring four goals and Schwabe adding one goal and three assists.
• Senior goalie Erin O'Grady is four career wins away from breaking the Michigan career wins record held by Mira Shane, who had 24 career victories. O'Grady is the second U-M goalie to win 20 games in the cage and owns the Michigan single-season wins record with 14 in 2024. The Massapequa, N.Y., native, also ranks third in the U-M record book with 295 career saves and would become the third goalie to record 300 saves with five more stops this season.
• Senior Maya Rutherford is one game away from tying the Michigan career games played record of 70 and has tied the Michigan career starts record of 69. Rutherford has started all 69 possible games in her career on the backline for Michigan and has recorded 43 ground balls and 31 caused turnovers in her time on defense. Along with Rutherford, Schwabe is two games away from tying the program record of career games played as she has seen time in 68 games in the last four seasons.
• With her 10 draw controls this past week, Smith ranks fourth all time in draw control wins in the Michigan record book. The Farmington Hills, Mich., native, has 158 career draw controls and needs 30 to tie Lily Montemarano for third all-time.
• Freshman Emma Burke has owned the draw control for the Wolverines as she ranks sixth in the Big Ten Conference with 71 draw control wins. Burke's 71 wins rank third in single-season history for Michigan and 10th in career history, while her 17 wins against Marquette earned her the single-game record. The Glenview, Ill., native, has recorded two double-digit draw control win outings and has won five or more draws on seven occasions.
• Michigan will be back in action Sunday, April 13, when it hosts Johns Hopkins at noon on B1G+.
