ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 13-ranked University of Michigan men's soccer team rallied from behind to defeat Northwestern, 2-1, on Friday (Oct. 24) at U-M Soccer Stadium.
Grayson Elmquist tied the match in the 66th minute with his fifth goal of the season, finishing assists from Duilio Herrera and Nolan Miller. Mitar Mitrovic delivered the game-winner in the 87th minute, converting a penalty kick to lift the Maize and Blue to victory.
As a team, Michigan controlled possession throughout the match, earning 10 corner kicks and firing 16 total shots, including five on target.
Northwestern (6-5-3, 1-4-2 Big Ten) opened the scoring in the 32nd minute against the run of play, as Aaron O'Reilly found the net to put the Wildcats ahead, 1-0.
The Wolverines turned the tide in the second half, creating consistent chances and applying sustained pressure on the Northwestern defense. Herrera and Miller combined to find Elmquist, who dribbled around the goalkeeper and tucked the ball inside the post to even the score at 1-1.
Continued pressure from Michigan led to a late penalty in the 87th minute, and Mitrovic stepped up to bury the shot into the back of the net for the go-ahead goal. Michigan then held firm over the final three minutes to secure its ninth win of the 2025 campaign. Goalkeeper Isaiah Goldson earned the win, making six saves, all coming in the second half.
Next up, the Wolverines will host Detroit Mercy on Tuesday (Oct. 28) at U-M Soccer Stadium for Senior Night.
