
Michigan Secures Victory over Nebraska in B1G Match-Up

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's soccer team secured a 3-2 home victory over Nebraska Sunday afternoon (Sept. 22) at U-M Soccer Stadium.
The U-M offense (2-7-1, 1-2-0 Big Ten) out-shot the Cornhuskers 11-8, with junior Abby Zugay leading the Wolverines with a goal and an assist. Junior Jenna Lang scored once and had two shots on goal, while junior Taylor Brennan notched the game-winner in the second half, assisted by sophomore Lilley Bosley.
Graduate student Stephanie Sparkowski made three saves to earn the win in goal.
Nebraska (3-6-0, 0-3-0 Big Ten) struck first, converting on a corner kick to take a 1-0 lead. Michigan responded immediately with back-to-back goals. Zugay tied the game 1-1 in the seventh minute, lofting the ball over the keeper. Just over a minute later, Zugay assisted Lang, who sent a shot into the bottom left corner to give the Wolverines a 2-1 advantage.
In the 29th minute, the Cornhuskers equalized with a redirect off a corner kick, sending the teams into halftime tied 2-2.
Bosley chased down her own rebound inside the box and passed to Brennan, who collected the ball and fired it into the bottom half of the goal to give Michigan a 3-2 lead in the 62nd minute. The Wolverines then held off Nebraska for the remainder of the match to secure the Big Ten home victory.
Michigan returns to action Thursday (Sept. 26) at U-M Soccer Stadium, facing Rutgers at 8 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.
