ANN ARBOR, Mich. --The University of Michigan men's soccer team (0-0) will open its 25th season with a pair of contests at U-M Soccer Stadium. The Wolverines will host Loyola Chicago (0-0) on Thursday (Aug. 22) at 7 p.m. before hosting Oakland (0-0)Â on Sunday (Aug. 25) at 2 p.m. Both contests will be streamed live on B1G+.
Notes
• This week's games at U-M Soccer Stadium will kick off a stretch of seven consecutive at home.
• Michigan returns 24 letterwinners from the 2023 season, including Bryce Blevins and Quin Rogers who are using their fifth year of eligibility with the Wolverines.
• U-M welcomes six newcomers for the 2024 campaign, adding four transfers and two freshmen. The transfers include sophomore Grayson Elmquist (Xavier), junior Rocky Perez (South Carolina) and graduate students Pierre Lurot (University of Indianapolis) and Beto Soto (Marquette).
• U-M returns Matthew Fisher and Isaiah Goldson, who both made names for themselves in 2023 by landing on the Big Ten All-Freshman team. Fisher anchored the backline for the Maize and Blue, starting 16 games and dishing out three assists. Goldson tallied 49 saves in 13 starts in goal for U-M, including a career-high seven saves against Indiana.
• Bryce Blevins, Jason Bucknor and Nolan Miller were named Michigan's Big Ten Players to watch on Wednesday (Aug. 21). Blevins was a key piece in 2023, scoring four goals and adding three assists in 14 starts for the Maize and Blue. Bucknor scored once and dished out one assist in nine appearances in 2023 with the score coming against Indiana in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals. Miller started all 18 matches for Michigan on defense and logged the most minutes on the team at 1,615.
• Head coach Chaka Daley enters his 13th season as the leader of the Michigan program. He has tallied a record of 95-86-41 in his 12 years at the helm and has guided the Wolverines to the NCAA Tournament on four occasions.
• The 2024 schedule features 16 regular-season matches, six non-conference matches and 10 Big Ten tilts. The Wolverines will face four teams ranked inside the preseason top 25 poll -- No. 7 Indiana, No. 2 Notre Dame, No. 4 Oregon State and No. 21 UCLA.
• Michigan will meet Loyola Chicago for the third time in series history. The Wolverines won both previous matchups, most recently defeating the Ramblers 2-1 in 2021. U-M will face Oakland for the 23rd time; last time out, Oakland came out on top in Rochester, Mich., by a score of 2-1.
• U-M will continue its homestand when it welcomes No. 4 Oregon State on Friday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m.
