LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Graduate student Beau Pederson (first team), senior Justin Wietfeldt (second team) and senior Michael Boehm (honorable mention) received USILA All-America honors, the association announced Thursday (May 23).
Pederson, a consensus preseason All-American, USA Lacrosse and Inside Lacrosse first team selection and second team All-Big Ten selection, has starred as one of the top defensive midfielders in the country. He has totaled four goals and two assists (six points) on 20 shots. Defensively, he has totaled 24 ground balls and caused 15 turnovers and also was selected 13th overall by the Utah Archers in the Premier Lacrosse League Draft.
Wietfeldt, a first team USA Lacrosse and second team Inside Lacrosse honoree as well as first team All-Big Ten award winner, ranks seventh nationally in faceoff win percentage (61 percent) and second in the country in ground balls per game (9.06). With 155 ground balls on the season, he became the second Wolverine to eclipse 300 pickups in a career with 320.
Boehm -- the program's all-time leading scorer -- was named All-America honorable mention by USA Lacrosse and Inside Lacrosse. He also took home Big Ten Tournament MVP for the second straight season and tied for the team lead in goals (34) while ranking second in assists (31) and points (65). He became the first player in U-M history to reach 100 career assists earlier this season and was selected 31st overall by the Philadelphia Waterdogs in the Premier Lacrosse League Draft.
The honor for Pederson represents the first time in program history a Wolverine has been named first team All-America by the USILA. Wietfeldt was named to the third team last season, while Boehm also was on the honorable mention list last season.
The Wolverines have received All-America recognition 10 times this season -- a single season program record -- with four coming from USA Lacrosse, three from Inside Lacrosse and three from the USILA.
