
Wolverines to Trek to No. 2 BC in First NCAA Quarterfinal Appearance

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 5-ranked University of Michigan women's lacrosse team will make the program's first-ever appearance in the NCAA Quarterfinal when it travels to Chestnut Hill, Mass., to take on No. 2 Boston College Thursday (May 16) at 5 p.m. The game will air on ESPNU.
Notes
• U-M is making its fourth NCAA Tournament appearance as it hosted the first and second rounds in 2019 and earned first-round victories in 2022, 2023 and 2024. The Wolverines advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the first time in program history with their win over No. 4 Notre Dame.
• Michigan is 11-0 on the road this season and has defeated five ranked opponents inside its own facility. U-M is 7-3 this season against ranked opponents and 3-2 against opponents ranked inside the top five.
• The Wolverines will square up with Boston College for the first time in the history of the two programs.
• As a defensive unit, the Wolverines continue to lead the nation as they give up just 7.21 goals per game and rank second with a .549 team save percentage. Junior goalie Erin O'Grady also continues to lead the nation in goals against average (6.96) and ranks second in save percentage (.566).
• With a buzzer-beating goal from junior Jill Smith, Michigan advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the first time in program history after defeating No. 4 Notre Dame, 15-14. Michigan took its first lead of the contest in the fourth quarter and continued to battle it out and set up Smith's game-winning goal. The game saw eight ties with four coming in the fourth quarter.
• Junior Katharine Merrifield has shown up in the NCAA Tournament for the Wolverines as she has recorded four points and won eight draw controls. Merrifield opened the tournament with three draw control wins in her first start of the season against Mercer. The junior midfielder followed it up with a career day, scoring four goals in Michigan's narrow 15-14 victory over No. 4 Notre Dame.
