
Timbrook's Pinch-Hit RBI Knock Leads U-M to Midweek Win at Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio -- Mack Timbrook's pinch-hit single in the eighth inning gave the University of Michigan baseball team the game's final lead and led the Wolverines to a 6-4 win against Toledo on Tuesday (April 16) at Fifth Third Field.
Michigan (18-20) was led by Cole Caruso and Will Rogers offensively. Both players had two hits on the day with Caruso scoring twice and Rogers bringing home two runs. Chase Allen pitched five innings and allowed just seven baserunners while striking out four. Jacob Denner (4-3) earned the win after 2.2 scoreless innings and three strikeouts to close out the game.
U-M got on the board first in the second inning a trio of singles loaded the bases. Caruso came home on a Kyle Dernedde sacrifice fly, and Michigan took an early 1-0 lead.
In the top of the third, Stephen Hrustich took a leadoff walk and moved to second on a Collin Priest single. A sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third and the pair scored on a Rogers single to right field for a 3-0 lead. The Wolverines added another run in the fourth when a Caruso single plated Hrustich.
The Rockets got on the board in the bottom of the fourth added another in the fifth to trim the U-M lead to 4-2.
Ricky Kidd entered the game for Allen to start the sixth and pitched a 1-2-3 frame with a pair of two strikeouts, but allowed two runners to reach in the seventh before Denner was summoned from the bullpen. He struck out two Rockets, but a two-run double tied the game at four.
Michigan immediately responded in the top of the eighth, starting with two hit-by-pitches, putting Dernedde and Mitch Voit on base. A groundout advanced the runners before Timbrook's pinch-hit single gave U-M the lead. Dernedde scored on the single and Voit scored after a throwing error by the pitcher. Denner responded with a 1-2-3 inning and U-M led 6-4 heading into the ninth inning.
Denner tossed another 1-2-3 inning and sealed the win, striking out the last batter to end the game.
The Wolverines will host Ohio State in a three-game conference series beginning on Friday (April 19) at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium. First pitch is set for 6 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on B1G+.
