
Wolverines Rout Golden Eagles in Southwest Florida Shootout Behind Cohen's Career Day

NAPLES, Fla. -- The No. 12-ranked University of Michigan men's lacrosse team defeated Marquette 20-12 in the Southwest Florida Shootout at Paradise Coast Sports Complex.
Junior Ryan Cohen had a career night, logging seven points -- four goals and a trio of assists -- in his return to his home state of Florida. Sophomore Bo Lockwood totaled six points (two goals, four assists), while graduate student Justin Tiernan had a game-high five goals. Senior Michael Boehm tallied a trio of markers and two helpers for five points, bringing his career total within six points of 200 in his career.
Senior faceoff man Justin Wietfeldt won 18 of 24 at the dot with a career-best tying 11 ground-ball pickups.
With the game tied at 1-1 at 5:57 of the first quarter, the Wolverines (3-1) went on a 4-0 run with markers from Tiernan, two scores from Cohen and the first U-M goal for graduate student Beau Pederson at 1:45 of the quarter to make it 5-1.

Overall, U-M went on an 8-2 run from the 4:11 mark of the first quarter to the 6:28 portion of the second to build a 9-2 advantage. Lockwood had four helpers in the opening half to support the offensive unit, and the Wolverines went into halftime with an 11-4 lead.
In the third quarter, U-M was able to build up a lead of 12 goals, 18-6, with 35 ticks to go in the frame. A marker from senior Kyle Stephenson at the 10:20 portion of the fourth quarter made it 19-6.
Marquette (2-2) outscored the Wolverines 6-2 in the final frame to bring the tally to the final resting place of 20-12.
Overall, U-M outshot the Golden Eagles 50-38, won the ground ball category 35-26 and forced five failed clears.
Midfielder Christian Ronda had his best game in maize and blue with a goal and three assists (four points). Fellow graduate student Andrew Stanzel had two caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls on close defense. Sophomore goalie Hunter Taylor stopped eight shots against seven goals.
The Wolverines' Sunshine State spring break trip continues with a contest against Jacksonville on Tuesday (Feb. 27) at 7 p.m. The matchup from Rock Stadium will be streamed live on ESPN+.
