GENEVA, N.Y. -- The University of Michigan field hockey team placed four players on the 2024 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I All-West Region teams, the organization announced Wednesday (Dec. 4).
Graduate student Lora Clarke and senior/junior Abby Tamer were named to the first team, while graduate students Kate McLaughlin and Erin Reilly earned second-team recognition. Clarke repeated as a first-team selection, while Tamer previously earned second-team honors in 2022.
The NFHCA Division I All-Region team announcement is the first in a list of postseason awards to come from the NFHCA over the next several weeks. The Regional Players of the Year will be revealed on Dec. 12, while the NFHCA All-America teams will be announced on Dec. 17.
Clarke, a 2023 NFHCA All-America third-team honoree, posted three goals and nine assists as one of U-M's primary corner inserters. She was named the Big Ten Tournament Outstanding Player, notably scoring a goal against Maryland, assisting on the last-second game-tying goal and converting in the shootout. Clarke started 83 of 95 total games played at Michigan and boasted 24 career goals, 26 assists and 74 points. She claimed All-Big Ten and All-West Region first-team honors in each of her final two seasons.
Tamer led the Wolverines in scoring with 12 goals, 14 assists and 38 points -- career highs in all three categories. She finished the season ranking eighth nationally -- second in the Big Ten -- with 0.65 assists per game and ranks 12th with 1.84 points per game. Tamer returned to the Wolverine lineup after Olympic redshirting the 2023 season and playing with Team USA in Paris, where she led the red, white and blue with two goals. Tamer was also one of eight unanimous selections on the All-Big Ten first team this season.
McLaughlin also owns career highs in all offensive categories with 13 goals, five assists and 31 points and is one of Michigan's primary inserters on its attack corner. After missing several games due to injury midway through the season, she finished ranked fourth in the Big Ten and 12th nationally with a 0.81 goals-per-game average and was also 12th nationally with 1.94 points per game. She posted two goals and an assist in postseason play and converted in the shootout against Maryland in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals. McLaughlin played in 77 games, starting 32, over her Michigan career and accumulated 27 goals, 12 assists and 66 points. She was previously named to the All-Big Ten second team.
Reilly, also an All-Big Ten second-team honoree this season, has been a fixture of the Wolverine defense over the last two seasons and has served as U-M's center midfielder and field general this year. She contributed to a defensive unit that has allowed just 1.1 goals and 7.2 shots per game. She posted a career-high seven goals and two assists as a primary striker on the Wolverines' attack corner unit. She was named to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team and assisted on the overtime game-winner against Indiana in the quarterfinals. Reilly appeared in 62 career games with 39 starts and carries 13 career goals and four assists.
Michigan completed its 2024 season with a 15-5 record, including a 5-3 mark in Big Ten Conference play and captured the Big Ten Tournament title before returning to the NCAA Tournament for the 20th time in program history.
