ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's soccer team (2-11-2, 1-6-1 Big Ten) returns home for its final two contests of the season at U-M Soccer Stadium, hosting Northwestern (5-8-3, 0-6-2 Big Ten) on Thursday (Oct. 17) at 7 p.m. and Purdue (6-7-2, 2-5-1 Big Ten) on Sunday (Oct. 20) at 1 p.m.
Notes
• Michigan has faced five teams currently ranked in this week's United Soccer Coaches poll in No. 12 Notre Dame, No. 15 Ohio State, No. 16 Penn State, No. 20 Xavier and No. 21 Michigan State.
• Michigan enters the week tied for 14th in the Big Ten standings. USC and UCLA are atop the league with 22 points. The top 10 teams will qualify for the Big Ten Tournament, which begins later this month.
• Michigan has 11 players who have recorded a point this season, led by Jenna Lang's eight points on four goals. Abby Zugay, Kali Burrell and Taylor Brennan each have five points.
• Sierra Sargent scored her first career goal in Michigan's last game at Oregon (Oct. 13), finding the back of the net right before halftime to tie the contest en route to a 1-1 tie. She is the third Wolverine to score their first career goal this season, joining Elle Ervin and Taylor Brennan.
• Avery Kalitta has started 57 consecutive games in the midfield for U-M. She started the final six games of her freshman season (2021) to kick off the streak, starting in every contest in 2022 and 2023. She is one of three Wolverines, joining Stephanie Sparkowski and Lang, to start all 13 games this season.
• U-M holds a 16-8-6 all-time advantage in the series against Northwestern, most recently picking up a 2-0 win on Sept. 21, 2023.
• The Wolverines are 14-4-4 all-time against the Boilermakers, winning the last four games between the teams. Michigan last picked up a 4-1 win over Purdue in the 2021 Big Ten Tournament (Nov. 4, 2021) en route to winning the title.
• Michigan closes out the regular season next week, heading to Wisconsin (Oct. 27) for the regular-season finale.
