ROSEMONT, Ill. - Junior Josh Zawada and sophomore Shane Carr of the University of Michigan men's lacrosse team received All-Big Ten Conference recognition, with Zawada earning first-team honors and Carr taking home a spot on the second team, the conference announced Wednesday (April 27).
Zawada, a second-team honoree a season ago, leads the team with 73 points on the year, and his 5.21 points-per-game ranks third in the conference. With 40 goals, his 2.86 goals-per-game average ranks second, and his 33 assists (2.36/game) rank third in the league. He enters the Big Ten Tournament with 144 points in his U-M career, tied for the most in program history.
The Raleigh, NC native re-wrote the U-M record books, setting single-season records for points and assists. He marked a program-record 11 points versus Detroit (February 12) and had 10-point efforts against Bellarmine (February 5) and Canisius (February 22), where he also set the single-game record for goals in a game with seven.
Zawada accrued six hat-tricks, 12 multi-point games, 11 multi-goal games and eight multi-assist games. He was also named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week on three occasions and a Tewaaraton Award Watch List Honoree.
Carr is the first U-M goalie to earn a postseason honor in school history. He ranks No. 3 in the Big Ten and is No. 17 in the NCAA in goals-against-average (10.58/game) and leads the Big Ten and is No. 13 nationally in save percentage (55 percent). He also tops the conference in saves per game (12.14).
His season-high 20 stops against Delaware (March 5) proved to be the third-most in program history. Carr has double-digit stops in eight-straight games while starting all 14 contests on the season.
Zawada is the third All-Big Ten First team honoree in program history, joining current teammate Nick Rowlett (2021) and Brent Noseworthy (2018) as the others. Carr joins Zawada (2021), as well as Nick DeCaprio and Alex Buckanavage (2019) as second-team honorees.
Additionally, senior captain Jackson Zaugg was named the team's sportsmanship honoree for the second time in his career. Zaugg earns the honor for his leadership and work in the community. He has played in 14 games as a longstick midfielder and has 15 groundball pickups to go along with 11 caused turnovers.
