ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 3-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team will travel to Raleigh, N.C., for the 2022 NCAA Regionals on Thursday (March 31) at 7 p.m. at the Valvano Arena at Reynolds Coliseum.
U-M will compete in the second round against No. 14 UCLA, Maryland and the winner of the Towson/North Carolina first-round session.
Should the Wolverines finish in the top two of their second-round session, they will advance to the NCAA Regional Final set for Saturday (April 2) at 5 p.m.
The top two teams Saturday will advance to the NCAA Championships, scheduled for Thursday and Saturday, April 14-16, in Fort Worth, Texas.
Rotation Order
• Michigan will begin its regional semifinal on the floor exercise before moving to the vault in the second rotation. The Wolverines will then compete on the uneven bars in rotation three before finishing the event on the balance beam.
Wolverine Bites
• Michigan ranks No. 3 nationally with a NQS of 198.015 and remains the No. 1 team on the vault and floor, while ranking fourth on the uneven bars and 11th on the beam.
• This marks the 30th consecutive year that head coach Bev Plocki has led the Wolverines to an NCAA appearance. They have gone on to advance to the NCAA Championships in 25 of the previous 30 seasons. Prior to Plocki, the Wolverines only competed in the NCAA Championships one time, winning the NCAA Regional and placing 10th overall in 1982.
• It will be the first time that Michigan has competed in Raleigh, N.C., for an NCAA Regional. U-M returns to Raleigh for the first time since 2018 when it competed against NC State and came away with the regular-season road win.
• Michigan has had at least one individual event winner in 11 of the last 12 regionals. Last season, Sierra Brooks won the all-around title and beam title and shared the vault title with Naomi Morrison, while Gabby Wilson won the floor title and Natalie Wojcik won the uneven bars title.
• The Wolverines eclipsed the 198 barrier on three occasions this season, earning a program-record 198.525 at Rutgers -- which ranks sixth all-time in NCAA history -- and scoring the first 198+ in Big Ten Championship history with a 198.200 to capture its 26th Big Ten championship. Michigan also recorded the second-highest vault score in NCAA history with a 49.875 and broke the U-M floor record with a 49.750.
