ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 1-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team (3-0, 1-0 Big Ten) is set to take on No. 15 Michigan State (4-1, 0-1 Big Ten) on Sunday afternoon (Jan. 30) at 2 p.m. inside Crisler Center. The meet will be broadcast live on ESPNU with Alex Perlman and Bridget Sloan on the call.
The meet also a celebration of the 36th National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Prior to the meet various Michigan women's athletic teams will host stations on the concourse to learn about and try their sports, and the first 500 kids 6th grade and under will receive a National Girls and Women in Sports Day autograph poster.
Wolverine Bites
• Michigan returns to action after a successful trip to No. 7 Minnesota on Monday (Jan. 24), earning a 198.025-197.650 victory in its first road meet of the season. The Wolverines were the first team in the nation to break the 198-point barrier in 2022 and broke it for the fifth time in program history.
• U-M remains the No. 1-ranked team nationally, while leading the nation on the vault and floor exercise. The Wolverines rank inside the top five on all four events, coming in at No. 3 on the uneven bars and No. 4 on the balance beam.
• Senior Natalie Wojcik was named a Big Ten Specialist of the Week on Tuesday (Jan. 25) after her performance at Minnesota. Wojcik tied for third on the balance beam with a 9.900, earned a 9.925 on floor exercise, and scored a 9.875 on the vault. She leads the nation on the beam and uneven bars, while ranking third in the all-around.
• Sophomore Naomi Morrison has burst onto the scene as Michigan's best kept secret and newest all-arounder. After competing consistently in the vault lineup and make a handful of appearances on floor and bars in 2021, Morrison has competed in the all-around in each of Michigan's three meets this year. Morrison has earned two vault titles and set career-best scores in all four events in the first three meets, including back-to-back 9.975s on the vault.

The Wolverines have won the last 30 meetings against the Spartans. Michigan and Michigan State are meeting for the first time in the regular season since 2020 after the 2021 meet was canceled due to COVID-19 protocols within the MSU program. U-M won the 2020 meeting 197.950-195.975 in Toledo, Ohio, at the Elevate the Stage meet.
The Spartans are No. 15 in the Road to Nationals week three rankings, and are inside the top 20 on all four events. Skyla Schulte is MSU's top all-arounder, ranking 30th nationally with a 39.208 average and a season-best score of 39.275. Along with Schulte, Baleigh Garcia ties for 11th on balance beam with an average of 9.908, and Gabrielle Stephen ties for 13th on vault with an average score of 9.892. Delanie Harkness sits in 16th on uneven bars with a 9.892 average.
