EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The University of Michigan baseball team came one win short of a weekend sweep of Michigan State, instead settling for weekend and season-series victories, as the Wolverines dropped Sunday's (May 9) series finale against the Spartans 10-2 at McLane Stadium.

Michigan State (13-22, 13-22 Big Ten) took its first lead of the series in the first inning, scoring two unearned runs after some sloppy U-M defensive play from the start. MSU made it 3-0 in the third inning and chased starter Jacob Denner (3-3) with a pair of runners on base. Blake Beers entered and needed just one pitch to spin a 5-4-3 double play to get out of the inning.

MSU took full control the next inning as it scored seven runs thanks to four walks, two hit batters an error and a wild pitch on just two hits.

Michigan (23-12, 23-12 Big Ten) got on the board with two runs in the seventh, when Jordon Rogers and Riley Bertram drove home runs on the back end of four straight singles in the frame.

Jimmy Obertop and Tito Flores were the lone Wolverines to register multiple hits in the game.

Michigan will back in action Friday through Sunday (May 14-16) when the Wolverines host Indiana in a pivotal three-game series at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium. First pitch for Friday's game is scheduled for 4 p.m. Michigan trails the Hoosiers by a single game in the Big Ten standings while Nebraska, Maryland and Iowa are all in the mix with three weeks remaining in the regular season.
