Michigan Tripped Up by UConn in Series Finale

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- The University of Michigan baseball team fell behind early and never recovered, falling, 9-2, against Connecticut in the finale of its three-game series at the New York Mets Spring Training Complex.
UConn did most of its damage in the fifth inning, turning a 2-0 lead into an 8-0 advantage. It appeared Michigan would be able to limit the damage, but the Huskies rallied with two outs, scoring five of their six runs in the inning with two out.
Though the Wolverines added a run in the sixth inning, Michigan's biggest offensive rally came in the ninth. Junior Cam Hart and freshman Jimmy Obertop started the frame with back-to-back singles, and the Wolverines loaded the bases with a walk from junior Logan Pollack. A run came across on a Jordan Nwogu RBI infield single, but that was as close as the Wolverines would get.
Nwogu led the Maize and Blue on offense, finishing 2-for-5 with an RBI and run scored in the game. Senior Dominic Clementi reached base twice via walk, and freshman Clark Elliott went 1-for-3 with a run batted in.
Relievers Cameron Weston and Benjamin Keizer tossed up zeroes in single innings of work, with Weston striking out one and Keizer fanning a pair.
The Wolverines will head west to start their California spring break road trip next week with a three-game series against Cal Poly from Friday through Sunday (Feb. 28-March 1) in San Luis Obispo. The road swing will see Michigan play eight games in 10 days with contests against the Mustangs, Stanford, Cal and Pepperdine.
