
DeCaprio, Buckanavage Named Second Team All-Big Ten

ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Senior Nick DeCaprio and sophomore Alex Buckanavage of the University of Michigan men's lacrosse team have been named second team All-Big Ten, the conference announced Tuesday (April 30).
DeCaprio, a 2019 team captain, tied the school record for caused turnovers in a career with 66 and ended his career ranked second in program annals in ground balls with 151. He was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for his NCAA-record-tying performance of eight caused turnovers against Penn State (April 14) and led the conference in the category with 2.08 per game. He was selected by the Boston Cannons in the third round of the 2019 Major League Lacrosse Draft.
Buckanavage led the Wolverines in goals (25) and assists (23) and tied the U-M single-season points record with 48. He ranked eighth in the conference in points per game (3.69) and led the team with 10 multi-point games, eight multi-goal goals and tied for the team lead with five hat tricks. Per Lacrosse Reference, Buckanavage led U-M in total EGA, a metric that measures overall value at 35.86. Against Ohio State last Friday (April 26), he tied the U-M record for assists in a game with four en route to breaking the program record for assists in a season with 23.
Graduate student goaltender Tommy Heidt earned the distinction of U-M's Sportsmanship Award honoree. He spent his graduate student year as a leader in the community, earning U-M's "Let's Go Do" Civic Engagement award as he spearheaded the Wolverines' Military Appreciation Day effort.
The honors are the second and third All-Big Ten honors for U-M, as Brent Noseworthy earned first team honors a season ago.
