ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The 2019 regular season will come to a close this weekend for the No. 7-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team when it travels to Columbia, Missouri, on Friday to compete in a quad meet with No. 9 Minnesota, No. 19 Missouri and Centenary College on Friday (March 15) at 7 p.m. CDT.
Quad Meet
• Friday will be Michigan's first trip to Columbia since 2008, when they won a quad meet.
• The Wolverines will match up with Missouri for just the second time since 2010. U-M faced the Tigers in the 2018 NCAA Regional and placed one spot higher. Michigan is 10-5 in the all-time series against Missouri.
• U-M is 10-3 overall when facing teams away from Ann Arbor.
• Two top-10 teams, Michigan and Minnesota, finished in first and second, respectively, in the Big Ten during the regular season. U-M scored a season-high 197.750 to win handily at the Elevate the Stage meet in Toledo, Ohio, on Feb. 23. That win was Michigan's sixth straight victory over the Golden Gophers.
• Centenary is an unfamiliar foe for the Wolverines. This will be just the second time in school history that U-M has faced off against them. The Wolverines won 191.650-186.050 in 1993.
Big Ten Regular-Season Champions
• Michigan went 9-0 in the Big Ten to capture its third straight regular-season championship and fifth in the seven years the conference has recognized the top team in the regular season.
Last Time Out
• Michigan honored its two seniors, Olivia Karas and Emma McLean, following a loss to No. 1 Oklahoma on Senior Day at Crisler Center last Saturday (March 9). U-M scored a 197.425 in the meet.
• The Wolverines recorded the third-highest balance beam score in school history with a 39.500.
• Freshman Natalie Wojcik tied for the win on the event with a 9.950 to tie her career best. She was one of four gymnasts with a 9.900 or better on the event for U-M, along with Lauren Farley, Karas and Lexi Funk.
• Wojcik also set a new career high on floor exercise with a 9.950 to tie for the win. She added a 9.900 on bars to finish with an all-around score of 39.650.
• Karas added a 9.925 to lead Michigan on uneven bars. She recorded an all-around score of 39.525 on her Senior Day.
• McLean had a 9.825 on vault and 9.875 on floor.
• Funk added a 9.900 on floor as well to match her career best.
197s
• Michigan has scored higher than a 197.000 in five straight meets after posting its second-highest score of the year against Oklahoma last weekend (March 9).
• The Wolverines had five scores of 197.000 all of last season and eight the year before. U-M is looking to match the streak of six straight 197's from the 2017 season as the second-longest in school history. The longest streak was seven meets in 2015.Â
Freshman Impact
• Abby Brenner, Abby Heiskell, Maddie Mariani and Wojcik have been reliable this season, combining to hit on 96 of their 100 routines in 2019.
• The four freshmen were all in a rotation for the first time this season against Oklahoma as they filled four of the six slots on bars. Each of them scored 9.800 or better.
In the Rankings
• In the third week of the National Qualifying Score (NQS), Michigan remained at No. 7 for the second straight week.
• The team is ranked No. 6 on vault and balance beam, No. 8 on uneven bars and No. 9 on floor exercise.Â
• Wojcik is among the best in the nation this year on every event. She is ranked tied for fifth in the all-around, T-3rd on vault, T-13th on bars, 6th on beam and T-35th on floor.
• Karas is also highly ranked in several events, coming in at 13th in the all-around, T-21st on floor, T-22nd on bars and T-45th on beam.
