WOLVERINE BITES
• Michigan has won two straight games, which includes a Big Ten-opening 9-7 victory against Ohio State on Saturday (March 17). Adriana Pendino led Michigan's offense with three goals to record her fifth hat trick of the season. Michigan caused 12 of Ohio State's 19 turnovers, led by defender Madison Richardson's five caused turnovers. Michigan never trailed in the game, although the game was tied on three separate occasions.
• In three of Michigan's four victories this season, the Wolverines have held their opponents to four goals or fewer -- Butler (W, 12-2), Canisius (W, 14-3) and Central Michigan (W, 12-4). The two goals allowed against Butler rank third in program history for fewest goals allowed in a game. The exception came in Saturday's 9-7 victory over Ohio State.
• Graduate student Bianca Brueckner is the only Wolverine to score in each game she has played this season, as she tallied one goal in each of the eight games she has appeared in, including the first goal versus Ohio State on Saturday. She has played in eight of nine games this season and has 11 total points, with eight goals three assists.
• Freshman Caitlin Muir has started each of the last six games after she missed the first three games of the season due to injury. She scored a pair of goals in each of U-M's last three games, which is a new career best.
• Molly Garrett leads Michigan in draw controls this season, winning 28. She ranks ninth in the Big Ten with 3.4 draw controls per game. Her season total of 28 moved her into a tie for seventh place on Michigan's all-time top 10 list for draw controls in a single season, while her 46 career draw controls rank fifth in program history, three ahead of current senior Mae Tarr (43).
• Junior goalie Mira Shane has started each of the last three games in cage for Michigan. She has seen time in seven of eight games this season, with a goals-against average of 9.32 and a save percentage of .425. Her single-game save percentage of .600 against Central Michigan ranks fourth in the program's record book, as she made six saves and allowed just four goals in 60 minutes. Selena Lasota and Claire Quinn scored four goals apiece. Lasota leads the team with 20 goals in eight starts while Sheila Nesselbush and Danita Stroup follow with 12 goals.
Scouting Northwestern
Northwestern will enter play at 5-3 on the season and will be playing its first Big Ten game of the season. A challenging early season schedule has seen the Wildcats play five ranked opponents with an 18-13 loss to No. 4 North Carolina last Saturday. Northwestern led UNC at halftime, 8-7, before they were blitzed in the second half; the Tar Heels scored 11 goals on 15 shots in the decisive half.
Michigan and Northwestern have met six times in program history, with the Wildcats winning all six against the Wolverines. Last season brought the closest game of the narrowing rivalry as Northwestern hung on for a 10-8 victory in Ann Arbor.
Scouting Detroit Mercy
Detroit Mercy are 3-4 overall and will enter Sunday's contest after a 19-15 home loss to Duquesne. Kaitlyn Wandelt tied a career high with six goals, and junior attacker Lexie Kinmond added six points in the loss. Wandelt leads the team with 22 goals and 33 draw controls through seven games, while Kinmond has 10 goals and a team-high 12 assists. Alison McDonough has started all seven games in net with a .462 save percentage.
Series vs. Detroit Mercy
Michigan and Detroit have met twice before and the Wolverines own a 2-0 series advantage against the TItans. The teams first played in 2014, when Michigan defeated Detroit Mercy, 16-6, in a game played at UDM. The teams also met in 2017 with Michigan again winning by 10 goals, 21-11.
