Michigan finished the sweep of Purdue today, marking its first conference doubleheader sweep since sweeping Minnesota on May 11, 2008. With the win Friday, U-M earned their first conference series sweep since April 12-14, 2013, when it swept Penn State at home.
Sophomore Carmen Benedetti tallied five RBI today, bringing his season total to 44, the best in the Big Ten.
Freshman Jake Bivens picked up singles in each game today, reaching base safely for the 24th consecutive game. Bivens was 5-for-8 with two runs on the day.
Freshman Ryan Nutof pitched a gem in the opener of today's doubleheader, setting a career-high with 7.2 innings pitched and allowing just two hits in the shutout start.
Michigan recorded its second shutout of the season in the first game today. Michigan defeated Siena 11-0 on March 1.
The top four hitters in the Wolverine lineup went a combined 21-for-36 (.583) with 10 runs and nine RBI today.
Sophomore Brett Adcock struck out 10 batters over six innings in the second game, just one shy of his career best, set earlier this year against Siena on March 1.
Sophomore Carmen Benedetti struck out the last two batters of the second game to clinch the doubleheader sweep and his first career save.
