ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Senior/junior Matt Ogden threw four solid innings on the mound, freshman Jake Bivens had three hits, and senior Kevin White broke a 2-all tie with a home run in the fourth inning as the University of Michigan baseball team opened its home schedule with an 8-3 win over Bowling Green Tuesday afternoon (March 24) at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium.
Bivens was 3-for-5 at the plate with two runs scored, while juniors Jacob Cronenworth and Cody Bruder and White had two hits apiece. Sophomore Carmen Benedetti drove in three runs, while senior Kyle Jusick brought in a pair for the Maize and Blue.
Bowling Green started the scoring with a run in the top of the third on an RBI double by Kory Brown, but Michigan came back with two runs in the bottom of the third frame. Cronenworth singled and stole second. Senior Jackson Glines walked with one out, and both runners moved up 90 feet on a wild pitch. Benedetti brought in the first run with a groundout, and Bruder singled to left, scoring Glines, to give Michigan the 2-1 lead.
The Falcons tied the game at two in the fourth, but White's home run led off Michigan's half of the fourth inning. The Wolverines then went for three runs in the fifth, highlighted by Jusick's RBI double to right. Michigan put up two more runs in the sixth as Benedetti's triple scored Bivens and Cronenworth.
Ogden allowed four hits and two runs with a pair of strikeouts and no walks as he earned the win on a pitch count. Freshman Oliver Jaskie struck out three in two innings of work, while sophomore Brett Adcock and freshman Michael Hendrickson had one strikeout apiece.
Michigan continues its six-game homestand this Friday (March 27) by opening a three-game series against Maryland. First pitch is at 4 p.m. at the Wilpon Complex, home of Ray Fisher Stadium.
