SCHEDULE CHANGE -- The University of Michigan baseball team (2-5) starts its spring break trip this weekend (Feb. 27-March 1) with a four-game series against Siena at Tradition Field in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Due to the weather forecast for the weekend, Michigan and Siena will play two seven-inning games Friday (Feb. 27) beginning at 12:30 p.m. at Tradition Field. The two teams will attempt to play one game on Saturday morning (Feb. 28) at 11 a.m. and one game Sunday morning (March 1) at 11 a.m. Michigan is coming off a 1-3 weekend in Savannah, Georgia.
SCOUTING SIENA -- The Saints (1-6) are coming off a 9-5 loss to Florida Gulf Coast on Wednesday afternoon (Feb. 25) in Fort Myers. Joe Drpich had a two-run home run in the loss, while Jordan Bishop was 2-for-4 on the day. Siena was swept by UCF to open the season then won the middle game of a three-game series against UConn. Chris Amorosi struck out four in 4.2 innings to earn the win on the mound.
GLINES RAKES TO START THE SEASON -- Senior Jackson Glines has picked up right where he led off last year. The All-Big Ten third team selection in 2014 is hitting .483 (14-of-29) with four runs scored, two doubles and three runs batted in. Glines hit .611 (11-of-18) in the four games in Savannah with four multi-hit performances. He had a pair of doubles in his three-hit performance against Davidson (Feb. 22) and was 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI in a win over Tennessee Tech (Feb. 20). Glines hit .332, which was tops on the team and seventh in the Big Ten, his junior year at U-M.
U-M MAKES ANNUAL TRIP TO PORT ST. LUCIE -- Michigan hosts Siena in a four-game series during its annual trip to Port St. Lucie, Florida, and the New York Mets' Spring Training complex. These two teams played each other during the 2009 season in Port St. Lucie with the Wolverines sweeping the series. Last year, Michigan split a four-game set with Princeton on the trip. The Wolverines have played the Mets five times in the past, most recently in the 2013 season.
BRUDER BIG IN TENNESSEE TECH WIN -- Junior Cody Bruder had two huge plays to help Michigan to a 6-5 win over Tennessee Tech on Feb. 20. With the Maize and Blue trailing 3-2 in the top of the eighth inning, Bruder tripled home Jacob Cronenworth to tie the game at three. Then in a 5-all game in the ninth, Bruder's squeeze bunt drove in Eric Jacobson with the game-winning run.
LEHMANN SETS CAREER HIGH MARK IN WEEKEND START -- Sophomore Keith Lehmann struck out seven in five innings of work in a start against Davidson on Feb. 21. Lehmann's previous high was five against Nebraska on April 25, 2014. Lehmann did not allow a run and gave up three hits and two walks in a no-decision against the Wildcats.
CRONEY EARNS WIN IN SEASON DEBUT -- Junior Jacob Cronenworth earned the win on the mound in Michigan's 6-5 win over Tennessee Tech on Feb. 20 in his first appearance of 2015. Cronenworth struck out three in two innings of relief.
