ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan men's lacrosse head coach John Paul has announced that seniors David McCormack, Will Meter, Thomas Orr and Mack Gembis have been named team captains for the 2015 season. All four were members of the team since the program's inception in 2011, and each earned the captain distinction for the first time in their careers.
"Throughout a really good fall we have relied heavily on our seniors to lead and these four were selected from that group by their teammates to keep the team headed in the right direction," said Paul. "Being named as a captain is a tremendous honor, but it's an even bigger responsibility. Our athletes have given Dave, Mack, Thomas and Will a mandate to make sure Team Four stays on track to be as good as it can be."
McCormack, a four-year starter on attack, enters his senior season with 32 career goals and 14 assists (46 points). Throughout his career, he has been named as Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, Academic All-ECAC and Big Ten All-Academic on two occasions. Additionally, he earned the U-M Freshman Athletic Academic Achievement Award, as well as the teams Most Improved Player award in 2012.

He led the team in assists as a freshman with 15 and enters his senior season with 16 goals in his career. He is a two-time U-M Academic Achievement Award Winner, as well as a Big Ten All-Academic honoree. Last year, he was named a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar.
Gembis has started games in each of his first three seasons in Ann Arbor. He moved into a full-time starting spot on close defense last year and earned Team Defensive MVP honors, as well as ECAC Defensive Player of the Week on March 1. He also led the team in caused turnovers last season and scored a goal against Furman on March 8. In 2013, he earned the teams Most Improved Player Award. He is a three-time U-M Athletic Academic Achievement Award Recipient.
A mainstay at defensive midfield, Orr has played in 35 games in his career and has collected 17 ground balls. A three-time U-M Academic Achievement Award winner is a two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar as well as Big Ten All-Academic and ECAC All-Academic Team honoree. He also earned the teams Scholar-Athlete Award as a freshman for earning the highest GPA on the squad.
Michigan will open up the 2015 season with a pair of exhibition matchups against Marquette and Denison on Saturday, Jan. 31, inside Oosterbaan Field House.
