WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 1 -- California Girls Stop for Burgers
While the games were played with fierce competition, our team did have some time to hang back, relax and enjoy all the wonderful things San Diego has to offer. The first order of business was marked with high priority, where every player shared a great deal of passion for what was to come. Yes, of course winning our soccer games comes to mind, however this is not soccer related. Our team's second passion after our sport is food. We made it very clear to the coaches and our bus driver that we NEEDED to find an In-N-Out Burger before we left California. Almost the whole team, minus Courtney Mercier who was craving a burrito, took over the already crowded In-N-Out Burger ready for a real taste of California.
After this amazing meal, we made our way to Mission Beach where we found sandy beaches, large waves, an amusement park and surf shops to fill our time. The rollercoaster looked small, but trust me when I say this ride was intense!!! After filling up with fast food, the coaster sure tested our iron stomachs. It is hard to describe how fast this rickety old coaster was able to drop and turn us, but as we exited the coaster smiling and laughing, Sarah Stanczyk had a single tear still falling down her face. After the coaster, many of my teammates went shopping and touring the rest of the park. As for me, I had been missing the ocean so much that I decided to join Holly Hein and Eunnie Kim for a quick dive into the surprisingly cold waves. No one drowned, it was a great success.
Overall the trip to California was a very enjoyable time, and while we would have loved to come home with two wins, our team worked hard and fought for each other on the field, which makes me proud to be a part of this team. We are excited for our next game on Friday at Oakland and hope to come out with another win! HAIL!
