Hortillosa Named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week

Hortillosa, who leads the team with 12 assists, is the sixth different Wolverine to earn Big Ten Player of the Week honors this season, as junior forward April Fronzoni (Larksville, Pa./Wyoming Valley West HS) and senior forward Molly Powers (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest HS) have been selected for offense and junior defender Stephanie Johnson (Houston, Texas/The Kinkaid School), sophomore goalkeeper Molly Maloney (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest HS) and junior defender Kristi Gannon (Escondido, Calif./San Pasqual HS) were honored on defense.
During the 2002 regular season, a Michigan player was named Player of the Week in seven of the nine weeks the league presented the award.
No. 2 Michigan (17-2, 6-0 Big Ten), the 2002 Big Ten regular-season champion, will open the postseason portion of its schedule this weekend at the Big Ten Tournament, hosted by Ohio State at the North Turf Field in Columbus, Ohio. The top-seeded Wolverines receive a bye into the semifinal round, where they will face Ohio State or Iowa at noon Saturday (Nov. 9). The winners of the Michigan State-Indiana and Penn State-Northwestern games will meet in the other semifinal at 2 p.m. Saturday, with the championship game slated for noon Sunday (Nov. 10).
