Ohio State Squeaks by Northwestern, Advances to Semis
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The 15th-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes defeated Northwestern 1-0 in the first round of the Big Ten Conference Field Hockey Tournament on Friday (Nov. 3) at Michigan's Ocker Field. The game's lone goal was scored by Buckeye Haley Fox at 12:32 of the first half.
The Buckeyes, the tournament's fourth seed, outshot the fifth-seeded Wildcats 15-1. OSU put on an abundance of offensive pressure the entire game but was stonewalled most of the afternoon by Jessica Yates, Northwestern's first team All-Big Ten goalkeeper. Yates made 10 saves on the afternoon.
Ohio State (12-7) advances to the semifinals tomorrow (Saturday, Nov. 4) at 11:30 a.m. against fifth-ranked Michigan, the tournament's host and top seed.

Q U O T E S
Ohio State Head Coach Anne Wilkinson
On the game ... "I think we put a lot of pressure on them early in the game and we were able to score. Then it was just a matter of us playing smart hockey. Continue to play as a team, attack as a team, defend as a team, just playing smart hockey."
On facing Michigan in the semifinals ... "It will be a good game. We'll be ready to go. Michigan is very good. We're going to need everyone to play well and as a team to beat them."
Northwestern Head Coach Marissa Didio
On the game ... "I think Ohio State had the better side of us the first time we played them this year. Statistically there is quite a gap between ours and their stats, but I think the difference in the game was our inability to attack. We didn't get our corner team up there and we need our offensive corner team to score goals. I was pleased with our team's performance; I feel we came a long way."
