PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- University of Michigan junior forward Kacy Beitel (Midland, Mich./H.H. Dow HS) earned Big Ten Conference co-Player of the Week honors in women's soccer for her performance over the Sept. 24-26 weekend. She is sharing the award with Minnesota's Juli Montgomery.
In two games, Beitel recorded two goals, including the game-tying goal in Friday's (Sept. 24) 2-1 overtime victory against then-No. 15 Illinois. This is the first Big Ten Player of the Week honor for Beitel, an All-Big Ten honoree in 1998. She becomes only the fifth Wolverine to garner the award and the first since Jessica Limauro received the honor for the week of Sept. 28, 1998.

Beitel's goal with 6:34 remaining in regulation, an 18-yard blast which squirted under the Illini goalkeeper, tied the Illinois match, 1-1. Moments later, Beitel appeared to have netted the game-winning goal, but the play was deemed offside and the game went into overtime. The Wolverines eventually won in the extra session to move into first place in the Big Ten standings.
Against Iowa (Sept. 26), Beitel again tallied a late goal. With the Wolverines holding a 1-0 advantage, her score at 86:21 sealed the Michigan victory.
Beitel, who missed Michigan's first game with a hamstring injury, is second on the team with four goals and third on the team with eight points.
