Wolverine Spikers Drop Five-Game Marathon at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Nicole Kacor's (Chicago, Ill./Mother McAuley HS) career day was not enough as the 18th-ranked University of Michigan volleyball team dropped a two hour, 35 minute marathon to the Purdue Boilermakers Saturday (Oct. 2) at the Intercollegiate Athletic Facility. Kacor set a career best with 26 digs and tied a career high with four service aces while adding 16 kills.
Michigan (8-4, 1-3 Big Ten) won the first game but dropped the match, 15-8, 11-15, 2-15, 15-7, 12-15. Purdue (10-3, 2-2 Big Ten) survived the match by outhitting the Wolverines .228 to .176, with edges of 90-83 in kills, 105-90 in digs and 12-10 in team blocks.
Middle blocker Joanna Fielder (Costa Mesa, Calif./Newport Harbor HS) led the Michigan attack with a career-high 25 kills. Fielder and Kacor were complemented by Sarah Behnke (Baroda, Mich./Stevensville Lakeshore HS), who recorded her second consecutive double-double with 13 digs and a season-high 22 kills.
Aneska Arosarena paced the Purdue attack with 34 kills and 24 digs, while Megan Peterson hit .471 with 17 kills and only one error on 34 attempts. Taryn Catlin ran the Purdue offense, finishing with 70 assists, 13 digs and five kills.
Michigan closes a three-match road swing on Tuesday (Oct. 5) with a 7 p.m. CDT match at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind.
