Zach Putnam joins the program a student assistant coach.Â
Putnam joins the program after starting his coaching career at Ball State, where he served as a volunteer coach starting in May 2023.Â
Prior to his time in Muncie, Putnam had a seven seasons MLB career spending time with the Cleveland Indians, Colorado Rockies, Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox. He complied 152 innings and a 10-7 record with 162 strikeouts over the course of his career.Â
Putnam played for the Wolverines in college for three seasons and earned All-American Status every season. In his freshman season, Putnam had a.286 on-base percentage while pitching 57.1 innings with a 2.51 ERA to earn first team freshman All-American from Collegiate Baseball. Putnam had a strong sophomore season where he hit .330 with eight home runs while possessing a 3.87 ERA across 102.1 innings to earn Second Team All-American from multiple organizations. In his final season with the team, Putnam hit .306 with 11 home runs and had a 2.58 ERA on the mound. Putnam was drafted in the 5th round of the 2008 draft.
He returns to Ann Arbor to finish his degree in General Studies.Â
