ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan softball team (24-14, 4-8 Big Ten) will host rival Ohio State (18-19, 7-5 Big Ten) for a three-game set this weekend at the Wilpon Complex, home of Carol Hutchins Stadium and Alumni Field. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday, with the final two games airing on the Big Ten Network.
Notes
• The Wolverines have claimed each of their last two Big Ten series after opening conference play with an 0-6 record.
• Michigan leads 104-32 in the all-time series against rival Ohio State but is 1-7 against the Buckeyes since 2023, including a three-game series sweep last season in Columbus.
• Michigan scored 11 unanswered runs in its 11-9 comeback win in the series rubber game last Sunday (April 5). U-M trailed 9-0 after the second inning, then scored in four of the final five innings, including a three-run seventh to tie the game and take the lead. Senior third baseman Maddie Erickson singled to score the tying run, and sophomore pinch runner Cece Thorington came home with the go-ahead run on a fielder's choice. It was among the largest comeback wins in NCAA softball this season. Rutgers erased an eight-run deficit to defeat Indiana, 14-11, on March 15.
• Freshman right-handed pitcher Grayson LaMarche earned the victory in Michigan's comeback win after entering with two runners in scoring position and two outs in the second inning. In total, she allowed one run on four hits and four walks -- the run, one hit and two walks coming in the second -- with two strikeouts over 5.1 innings. Over the final five scoreless innings, she allowed just one Northwestern batter to reach each frame. It was the most innings she has pitched to date in her collegiate career.
• Three Wolverines batted .500 or better over the three-game Northwestern series. Freshman shortstop Kiley Carr led Michigan with a .556 average (5-for-9), including a three-hit effort in the series finale. Junior outfielder Lauren Putz hit .545 (6-for-11) with eight RBI, and senior second baseman Janelle Ilacqua hit .500 (5-for-10) with four runs scored and two RBI. Michigan hit .333 as a team with a .521 slugging percentage -- five doubles, two triples and three home runs.
• Junior outfielder Jenissa Conway crushed a pair of home runs in the Northwestern series -- the Ballpark at Rosemont is 240 feet to center field and 200 feet down the lines -- including a three-run shot to get U-M on the board in the third inning of its Sunday comeback win. Putz also knocked out a three-run homer in the rubber game. Conway owns five homers over the last nine games.
• Putz ranks in the top 15 nationally in several offensive categories, listing ninth in RBI per game (1.50), 12th in slugging percentage (1.009) and 14th in on-base percentage (.579). She also ranks 24th nationally with her .472 batting average -- an 80-point improvement on her rookie season average -- and an .82 walks-per-game average.
• With a .372 batting average through 37 games this season, Erin Hoehn boasts a 150-point improvement over her previous career best (.222). She owns career highs in every offensive category and ranks third on the team in batting average, slugging percentage (.615) and on-base percentage (.433).
• Langford has successfully reached base in all 22 games since returning to the Wolverines' lineup at the start of their spring break trip after an early-season finger injury. Langford ranks second on the team with a .397 batting average and a .510 on-base percentage from the leadoff spot.
