ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 9-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team celebrated its senior night with a second-place finish, scoring a 197.10 on Friday (March 13) at Crisler Center. No. 1 Oklahoma won the meet with a 197.925 and Eastern Michigan notched a 195.025 for the third-place finish.
The Wolverines scored a season-best 49.600 on floor exercise, counting five scores of 9.900 or better, as Carly Bauman scored a team-best 9.950, while Sophia Diaz tied a career-best 9.925 and Jahzara Ranger matched that with a 9.925 of her own. Peyton Davis and Quincy Walters recorded 9.900s.
Graduate student Reyna Guggino stuck her vault in the first rotation for a 9.950 in her final vault inside Crisler, while Audrey Sanger made her first career appearance on vault and scored a team-best and career-high 9.875 on the uneven bars in the anchor spot.
The Wolverines posted a season-best 49.475 on the vault in the first rotation. Guggino closed out her home career with a 9.950 and a stuck landing in the second spot, while Sanger made her vault debut with a 9.850. Ava Jordan notched a 9.900 in the four spot and Ranger anchored with a 9.925. Oklahoma recorded a 49.225 on uneven bars and Eastern Michigan went 48.800 on beam.
Oklahoma used a 49.650 on the vault to take the lead from Michigan in the second rotation. Bauman recorded a 9.825 in the fifth spot and Sanger anchored with a stuck landing for a career-best 9.875. OU took a 98.475 into the third rotation, while Michigan carried a 98.475 to sit in second, and EMU earned a 97.725 through two rotations.
Sophie Parenti and Walters led the Wolverines on the balance beam, with Parenti scoring a 9.825 and Walters following with a 9.850. Michigan went into the final rotation with a 147.500 running score.
Michigan showed out on floor exercise. Davis and Walters scored matching 9.900s, while Diaz and Ranger notched 9.925s and Bauman recorded a 9.950 to lead U-M to a season-best 49.600 in the final rotation.
U-M earned a spot in the third session of the Big Ten Championship and will compete next Saturday (March 21) against Michigan State, Minnesota and UCLA at State Farm Center in Champaign, Ill. The meet will begin at 5 p.m. CT, and it will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network.
