
Michigan Sweeps Event Titles in Win Over Rutgers

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 9-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team swept the individual event titles to earn a 197.100-195.675 victory over Rutgers on Saturday (Feb. 21) at Crisler Center in a Big Ten Conference matchup.
Graduate student Carly Bauman and Jahzara Ranger took home a pair of event titles each, sharing the floor exercise title with teammate Sophia Diaz, with the trio scoring matching 9.900s. Bauman also won the uneven bars title with a 9.925, and Ranger notched her second straight 9.925 on the balance beam for the title. Graduate student Reyna Guggino won the vault title with a stuck landing and a 9.925 to start the meet.
Michigan (6-3, 3-3 Big Ten) started strong on the vault. Peyton Davis scored a 9.800 and Guggino followed it up with a stuck landing and a 9.925 in the second spot. Kayli Boozer recorded a 9.850, while Ava Jordan notched the second score of 9.900 or better in the rotation with a 9.900. Ranger anchored with a 9.850 as Michigan took a 49.325-48.625 lead into the second rotation.
U-M opened the second rotation with back-to-back 9.800s on the uneven bars and Diaz recorded a 9.825 in the third spot. Bauman put together a 9.900 to lead the Wolverines as they took a comfortable 98.350-97.700 advantage at the halfway point.
Quincy Walters and Bauman earned matching 9.875s on the beam before Ranger scored her second straight 9.925 to lead the Maize and Blue in the third rotation. Michigan headed into the final rotation leading by a full point, 147.675-146.675.
Davis started the floor exercise with a 9.850 and Walters followed with a 9.875 in the second spot. Michigan closed out the meet with three straight 9.900s from Diaz, Bauman and Ranger to earn the victory over the Scarlet Knights (5-5, 1-5 Big Ten).
Michigan will travel to State College, Pa., next Saturday (Feb. 28) for the Big Ten Quad Meet, where it will take on Penn State, Nebraska and Washington at 6 p.m. on Big Ten Network.
