
Bradbury’s Six-Goal Outburst Fuels Road Win Over Bulls

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Behind nine points from junior Emma Bradbury, including six goals, the No. 17-ranked University of Michigan women's lacrosse team defeated USF, 16-10, on Sunday (Feb. 15) at Corbett Stadium to complete a perfect weekend in Florida.
For the second straight game, Michigan (2-1) rallied from a multi-goal deficit, trailing by as many as four on two occasions. The Wolverines tied the contest with 10 minutes remaining in the third quarter, took the lead with one minute left in the period and never trailed again, outscoring USF (1-1) 6-1 in the fourth quarter to secure the win.
Bradbury's nine points rank second in single-game history for the Maize and Blue, while her six goals marked a career high. Graduate student Katharine Merrifield recorded a hat trick, while Calli Norris and Emerson Pattillo added two goals apiece. Sophomore Caroline Byrd totaled five points on one goal and four assists.
Sophomore Emma Burke controlled the draw with 12 wins, while Ava Class and Taylor Cullen each caused two turnovers. Cullen also collected a team-best four ground balls. In goal, Elizabeth Johnson made three saves in the first half, and Madeline Jensen added four saves over the final 30 minutes.
USF opened with a 5-1 lead in the first quarter. Michigan narrowed the gap in the second, outscoring the Bulls 4-3 to trail 8-5 at halftime.
The Wolverines struck 50 seconds into the third quarter on a goal from Class. After USF answered, Michigan won the ensuing draw and went on a seven-goal run that stretched into the fourth quarter, including two goals each from Merrifield and Bradbury, to build a 13-9 advantage.
The Bulls scored once more with nine minutes remaining, but Michigan closed the game with three straight goals, including two from Bradbury and one from Pattillo, to secure the road victory.
U-M will travel to Atlanta, Ga., on Saturday (Feb. 21) for a neutral-site matchup against No. 3 Boston College at 3 p.m.
