
Michigan to Head to Oregon for B1G Outdoor Championships

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team will open outdoor postseason competition with the Big Ten Outdoor Championships, Friday through Sunday (May 16-18), hosted by Oregon at Hayward Field.
Notes
• Wolverines to watch at the Big Ten Championships include Trent McFarland (1,500-meter run), Luke Venhuizen (5,000-meter run), Caleb Jarema (3,000-meter steeplechase), John McNeil (high jump), Tianhao Wei (triple jump), Zane Forist (discus throw).
• The 800-meter run group moved up to No. 6 in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Event Squad Rankings, while the 1,500-meter run squad (No. 12) is just outside the top 10.
• Michigan finished fourth at the 2024 Big Ten Outdoor Championships, scoring 72 points.
• Tom Brady won his second straight 10,000-meter run title on the first day of competition with a time of 29:19.27 to edge second-place finisher Micah Wilson of Wisconsin by just 0.03 seconds. Eli Winter also picked up points for the Maize and Blue, finishing fifth in the hammer throw (65.59 meters/ 215 feet, 6 inches), and the team sat in fourth place after day one.
• Jarema took bronze in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (8:45.42), combining with Jack Spamer's seventh place finish (8:57.02) for eight points. The Wolverines remained in fourth heading into the final day.
• McFarland (1,500-meter run, 3:43.59) and Dubem Amene (400-meter dash, 45.92 seconds) earned individual titles on day three, each picking up 10 points for U-M. Nick Foster (1,500-meter run, 3:43.64) and Venhuizen (5,000-meter run, 13:58.27) both took second in their respective events to round out the team's medalists.
• Ian Hill finished fifth in the 5,000-meter run with a personal best time of 14:11.41, while Miles Brown (800-meter run, 1:49.40) and Berachiah Ajala (triple jump, 15.28m/50-1.75) each finished eighth in their respective events.
