ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 13-ranked University of Michigan women's lacrosse team (10-4, 4-2 Big Ten) will travel to Evanston, Ill., for a 7 p.m. CT contest on Thursday (April 17) against No. 3 Northwestern (12-2, 6-0 Big Ten) at Martin Stadium. Notes
• Michigan is 3-2 against ranked opponents this season, and against the No. 3-ranked Wildcats will take on its third opponent ranked in the top five this season. Most recently, the Wolverines defeated No. 5 Johns Hopkins for its fourth-ever victory against a top-five opponent.
• Michigan ranks fifth nationally in scoring defense, giving up just 8.14 goals per game. The backline has forced 198 turnovers, with Grace Callahan ranking eighth in the Big Ten with 20 caused turnovers.
• U-M held the Blue Jays scoreless for the final 39:58 of the game and did not allow a goal the entire second half. Callahan and Maya Rutherford each tallied two caused turnovers. Callahan also picked up three ground balls, while Rutherford added two.
• Senior Erin O'Grady was named the Big Ten and IWLCA Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday (April 15) after she made 12 saves to become the third goalkeeper in program history with more than 300 career stops (309). It marked her ninth game this season -- and 15th of her career -- with 10 saves or more.
• O'Grady leads the nation with a .561 save percentage, while her 10.4 saves per game rank second in the Big Ten and seventh nationally. She is also three wins away from breaking the Michigan career wins record held by Mira Shane (24). O'Grady is the second U-M goalie to win 20 games and owns the program's single-season wins record with 14 in 2024.
• Freshman Emma Burke tallied five draws against Johns Hopkins to bring her season and career total to 100. Burke is the eighth Wolverine to win 100 career draws controls and is just 14 wins away from tying the U-M single-season record of 114 set by Lily Montemarano in 2024. Burke's total is fourth in the Big Ten and she is one of just four players in the conference with 100 draw-control wins this season. Her 7.69 draws-per-game average ranks 18th nationally and third among freshmen.
• Senior Jill Smith has scored in 31 consecutive games, the longest streak in Michigan history and broke her previous record of 22 games spanning the 2022-23 seasons. Smith has scored in every game since Feb. 24, 2024. Her point streak is one game shy of tying Caitlin Muir's 32-game streak from April 13, 2019, to March 13, 2022.
• Senior Kaylee Dyer is five assists from tying the single-season record of 26 set by Caroline Davis in 2024. Dyer has 21 assists on the season to lead the Wolverines and ranks second in career assists history with 63 helpers. Caitlin Muir holds the Michigan record with 90 career assists.
• Senior Rutherford broke the Michigan career games played and games started records when she started her 71st career game against Oregon (April 6). Rutherford has started all 72 possible games in her career on the backline for Michigan and has recorded 50 ground balls and 35 caused turnovers in her time on defense. Along with Rutherford, Schwabe has appeared in 71 career games, missing just one game in her four-year career.
• Smith became the Michigan career points leader on a goal to kick off the scoring against Ohio State in the fourth quarter, recording seven points (three goals, four assists) -- all in the second half -- to bring her career total to 207. She passed Muir, who recorded 203 points from 2018-22. The Farmington Hills, Mich., native has since added to her tally and is at 222 career points. Smith also ranks fourth in Michigan history with her 173 draw-control wins.
