
Dyer Scores 100th Career Goal, Michigan Wins at Colorado

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 5-ranked University of Michigan women's lacrosse team used a 7-0 run spanning the final 19 minutes of play to close out a 12-7 victory at Colorado on Saturday afternoon (March 8) at Kittredge Field.
Senior Kaylee Dyer became the sixth Wolverine (5-2) in program history to score 100 career goals as she recorded a hat trick and added two assists for five total points. Jill Smith netted a team-best five goals and had one assist in the victory over Colorado (1-4). Freshman Emma Burke led the draw control with seven wins, while Ava Class won two.
Senior Erin O'Grady tied a career-best 13 saves for the second straight game in the win, while Grace Callahan had three ground balls and a caused turnover on the defensive end of the field.
Colorado scored the lone goal of the first quarter just two minutes into the game, and the contest remained scoreless for 15 minutes before the Buffaloes netted their second of the game in the second quarter. Dyer recorded Michigan's first goal of the contest with 5:21 left in the half to bring U-M within one, 2-1. Colorado answered two minutes later, and Smith scored her first goal with under a minute remaining in the half, sending the Wolverines into the break trailing 3-2.
Dyer opened up the third quarter with her second goal of the day, but Colorado's Morgan Pence responded with back-to-back goals to push the Buffaloes ahead, 5-3, with 7:52 left in the third quarter.
Smith started the 7-0 Michigan run with 4:05 left in the third quarter on a free-position shot, and Caroline Byrd connected with Class for a goal to tie the game heading into the fourth quarter.
The U-M run continued into the fourth as Julia Schwabe corralled a pass from Dyer and fired a shot high to low to give Michigan its first lead of the game. The offense continued to run through Dyer as she found Emma Bradbury through traffic to extend the U-M lead to 7-5. Smith, Peyton Shreves, and Dyer all scored over the next five minutes, pushing the Wolverines ahead 10-5 with just over six minutes remaining.
The two teams traded goals to close out the game, as Michigan's 7-0 run propelled it to victory over Colorado.
U-M opens Big Ten Conference play on Sunday (March 16), traveling to Maryland for a 1 p.m. contest.
