
U-M Nets 22 Goals to Run Past Marquette

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 8-ranked University of Michigan women's lacrosse team defeated Marquette, 22-5, Sunday afternoon (Feb. 23) at U-M Lacrosse Stadium.
The Wolverines' (3-1) 22 goals rank second in program history, while Emma Burke's 16 draw control wins rank second in Michigan's single-game history. U-M had six multi-goal scorers with three individuals with hat tricks. Senior Kaylee Dyer had seven points with three goals and four assists, while Jill Smith had three goals and three assists, and Julia Schwabe had three goals and two assists.
Marquette (3-1) scored first before U-M answered with back-to-back goals in 37 seconds to take the lead, 2-1. Michigan extended its lead to 7-2 to close out the first quarter, including Grace Callahan's first career goal.
The Wolverines outscored the Golden Eagles, 6-1, in the second quarter as Smith completed the hat trick, and U-M took a 13-3 lead into the locker room.
Michigan outshot Marquette, 23-14, and won 13 draw controls compared to the Golden Eagles' five.
With a running clock, U-M added four goals to its tally to take a 17-3 lead with 15 minutes to play. The two teams exchanged goals to start the fourth quarter bringing the score to 19-5 with just over five minutes to play.
U-M closed the game on a three-goal run to take the decisive home win.
Michigan will return to U-M Lacrosse Stadium on Tuesday (Feb. 25) for a 4 p.m. contest against Canisius. The game will air on B1G+.
