Bench Propels U-M Past Syracuse at BHOF Women's Showcase

UNCASVILLE, Conn. -- The No. 6-ranked University of Michigan women's basketball team got 42 points from its bench, highlighted by a career-high 21 points from Te'Yala Delfosse, in a wire-to-wire 81-55 win over the Orange on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 23) in the Basketball Hall of Fame Women's Showcase at Mohegan Sun Arena.
Delfosse recorded the first 20-point game of her career, going 8-for-11 from the floor for 21 points and three rebounds in 19 minutes off the bench. Olivia Olson added 18 points and eight rebounds, narrowly missing her second straight double-double. Brooke Quarles Daniels chipped in eight points, seven assists and five rebounds as 12 Wolverines found the scoring column. U-M held a 46-32 edge on the glass and forced 23 turnovers.
Michigan scored the first four points of the game as both teams worked to settle in. U-M held the Orange scoreless over the final 4:27 of the first quarter, closing on an 11-0 run capped by a steal from McKenzie Mathurin that led to a layup from Macy Brown for a 20-6 lead after 10 minutes.
The run continued into the second quarter as Michigan's lead grew to 23-6 on a Mathurin triple to open the frame. The Orange responded with a 7-0 run, forcing a Michigan timeout at 7:29 with the lead trimmed to 23-13.
U-M took a 38-23 lead into halftime, scoring the final five points of the quarter on an Olson three-pointer and a Delfosse layup off a pass from Quarles Daniels. Michigan dominated the glass in the opening 20 minutes with a 31-11 rebounding advantage, including 14 offensive rebounds that produced 10 second-chance points.
Michigan scored nine of the first 12 points in the third quarter, highlighted by a triple from Mila Holloway at the top of the key just over two minutes in to push the lead to 47-23. U-M outscored the Orange, 26-18, in the third to take a 64-39 advantage into the final period.
The Wolverines led by as many as 33 points in the fourth quarter, getting contributions from six different players over the final 10 minutes.
Michigan completes a three-game stretch away from Crisler on Wednesday (Nov. 26), heading to Detroit to face Detroit Mercy at 5 p.m.
