DETROIT, Mich. -- The No. 6-ranked University of Michigan women's basketball team used a 26-2 run to end the first quarter and never looked back in a 102-53 win over Detroit Mercy on Wednesday evening (Nov. 26) at Calihan Hall. Michigan topped the century mark for the third time this season.
U-M (6-1) had five players in double figures, led by Mila Holloway's 19 points and four steals. Te'Yala Delfosse recorded the first double-double of her career, turning in 14 points and 10 rebounds, with Brooke Quarles Daniels (11), Olivia Olson (10) and McKenzie Mathurin (10) rounding out Michigan's double-figure scorers.
Michigan scored the first five points behind a Quarles Daniels layup and a triple from Holloway. The Titans scored the next four points as Michigan was held scoreless for nearly five minutes. A Kendall Dudley layup started the run, with Detroit Mercy calling timeout after back-to-back Holloway triples gave Michigan a 12-4 lead with just over five minutes remaining in the first.
Detroit only made one field goal the rest of the way, as a Mathurin lefty layup on Michigan's final possession gave the Maize and Blue a 31-6 lead after 10 minutes.
Michigan led by as many as 35 points in the second quarter, taking a 50-18 lead into the break behind a balanced scoring attack as Holloway had 13, with Syla Swords, Mathurin and Delfosse each chipping in seven.
U-M extended its lead to 63-24 in the opening minutes of the third quarter, forcing a Titans timeout after a triple from Holloway and a bucket from Olson in transition at the 6:38 mark.
The Wolverines led by as many as 50 points in the final quarter, getting points from 13 different players in the win.
Michigan is back at home next Wednesday (Dec. 3), hosting Central Michigan in Women of Inspiration night at Crisler Center. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on B1G+.
