Purdue (33-19, 13-8 Big Ten) used a two-run top of the third inning to tie the game at two, but the Wolverines immediately reclaimed the lead with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame. Kim hit his second double in as many at-bats and scored on a single by Collin Priest after Hrustcih was intentionally walked. Cole Caruso doubled to bring home Hrustich to put the score at 4-2, where it remained through the fifth inning.
Purdue once again tied the game up at four with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning. As it did in the third, Michigan responded in a big way in the sixth to take back the lead. Mack Timbrook singled with one out, and two pitches later, Dernedde homered to left field to put the Wolverines ahead 6-4. After a ground out, Voit and Hrustich homered back-to-back to add insurance and an 8-4 lead.
Chase Allen took the mound in the seventh and fired a 1-2-3 inning before giving up a run in the eighth. The Boilermakers got one run closer off Kidd in the ninth, but a ground out ended the game to seal an 8-6 win over Purdue and a series win.
