
Michigan Dominates Eastern Michigan With 20-Goal Outburst

YPSILANTI, Mich. -- The No. 5-ranked University of Michigan women's lacrosse team dominated Eastern Michigan 20-4 in a midweek non-conference contest Wednesday (April 3) at the EMU Indoor Practice Facility.
The Wolverines outshot the Eagles 38-11 with 28 shots on goal and won 21 of 26 possible draw controls with a single-game program-best 15 draw-control wins from Lily Montemarano. Michigan's 20 goals ties for the fifth most in program history, while its four allowed also ties for fifth least in program history.
Thirteen Wolverines contributed to the Michigan scoring effort with six scoring two-or-more goals. Calli Norris led the way with the hat trick, while Emma Bradbury and Emerson Pattillo recorded their first collegiate goals.
Defensively, Maddie Burns and Maya Rutherford had three caused turnovers each and Megan Minturn had four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Michigan (12-1) netted three goals in the first four minutes of action before it added two more to its tally, including one from Burns to take a 5-0 lead after one quarter against the Eagles.
Eastern Michigan (5-5) scored its first goal to start the second quarter, but it was all U-M for the next eight minutes as it scored six goals to extend its lead to 11-1. The Eagles recorded their second goal two minutes later to put an end to the running clock, but a Norris goal with just 28 seconds left in the half kept the clock moving and the Wolverines went into the halftime break leading 12-2.
Michigan dominated the draw control 13-2 as Montemarano had a team-best eight wins and Smith added three in the first 30 minutes of play. Defensively, Rutherford had three caused turnovers and two ground balls in the first half.
Norris opened the second half with her second of the day and completed the hat trick with 8:29 left in the third quarter to extend the Michigan lead to 15-2. Eastern found a third goal, but Michigan answered with a pair of goals from Stein and Schwabe to take a 17-3 advantage into the final quarter.
Michigan outscored EMU 3-1 in the fourth quarter to take the decisive 20-4 road win.
U-M will be back in action Saturday (April 6) at 1 p.m. when it travels to State College, Pa., to take on No. 22 Penn State.
