
Michigan to Head West for Spring Break Matches at USC, Arizona State Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 25-ranked University of Michigan men's tennis team (5-6) is set to head west as the university heads into spring break. The Wolverines will face USC (4-5) on Tuesday (Feb. 27) at 4Â p.m. PST in Los Angeles, Calif., before heading to the three-day Arizona State Invitational, Friday through Sunday (March 1-3) in Tempe, Ariz..
Notes
• Michigan won its match versus USC last year the Varsity Tennis Center, a 4-1 decision. The victory allowed the Wolverines to stretch their win-streak to 10 straight matches while handing the Trojans their first loss of the season. All-time, USC holds a 7-3 edge in the series.
• Following the trip to USC, Michigan will compete at the second-annual Diablo College Tennis Invitational presented by Dan Treon Law in Tempe, Ariz. The tournament will be held Friday through Sunday (March 1-3) and will feature eight teams: ASU (22), Arizona (9), Boise State (51), Grand Canyon, Liberty (74), Michigan (25), Michigan State (21) and VCU (35). The teams will play a round-robin style tournament at Kiwanis Tennis Center in Tempe. Live scoring and video will not be available.Â
• The Wolverines are ranked No. 25 in the first computerized rankings of the season. Michigan is 5-6 on the season with seven matches against ranked opponents, including three top-10 teams last weekend at the ITA Indoors.
• Gavin Young ranks No. 18 in singles with a 3-5 dual mark and a 9-9 overall record. He's faced 13 ranked opponents this season and has wins over six of them, including the No. 2-, 12- and 15th-ranked players.
• Playing at No. 2 singles, Jacob Bickersteth is 5-4 this season at that position and is 14-7 overall on the year. He is 3-4 against ranked opponents and had a six-game win streak this season. He is three wins away from reaching 50 career wins.
• Bickersteth and Young are ranked No. 30 as a doubles pair. They boast a 5-2 record including a win over the fifth-ranked pair from Texas (Cleeve Harper/Eliot Spizzirri) from last weekend (Feb. 17).
• Patorn Hanchaikul has the winningest mark on the team at 6-2. He started the season between No. 4 and No. 5 singles and now is Michigan's steady No. 3 player. This year he collected his longest win streak, taking seven straight matches.
• Michigan is 3-1 when it wins the doubles point this season.
