ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan men's tennis freshman Max Dahlin was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Region Rookie of the Year, the organization announced Tuesday (June 9).
The Karlstad, Sweden, native continues to add to an impressive freshman campaign after earning Big Ten Player and Freshman of the Year honors -- becoming the first player in conference history to win both awards in the same season -- while also collecting All-America honors in singles and doubles.
A unanimous first-team All-Big Ten selection, Dahlin finished the season with the nation's longest active singles winning streak at 18 matches. He climbed as high as No. 6 in the national singles rankings and posted a 29-3 overall singles record, including a 20-1 mark at the No. 1 position and an undefeated 11-0 record in Big Ten play. Dahlin also went 13-2 against ranked opponents, highlighted by a victory over the nation's No. 3-ranked player.
During the fall season, Dahlin advanced to the NCAA Singles Quarterfinals, winning nine consecutive matches to close the fall campaign with a 9-1 record. He also finished the year a perfect 12-0 in singles tiebreaks.
In doubles play, Dahlin recorded a 17-7 mark, which includes a 10-6 record at No. 1 doubles, while going 6-4 against ranked pairs. He reached as high as No. 7 in the national doubles rankings with partner Bjorn Swenson as they finished the fall in the NCAA Quarterfinals.
Dahlin becomes the fifth Wolverine to earn ITA Midwest Region Rookie of the Year honors, joining Evan King (2010), Alex Petrone (2012), Andrew Fenty (2019) and Gavin Young (2022). Fenty went on to earn ITA National Rookie of the Year honors.
Dahlin is now eligible for ITA National Rookie of the Year, which will be announced June 16.
