HOLLAND, Mich. -- The No. 15-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving program joined Calvin university, Hope College and Purdue to honor the memory of Ian Miskelley at the Be Better; Invitational on Friday (Oct. 4) at the Holland Aquatics Center.
Jack Wilkening got his junior season off to a strong start with first-place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke (48.07 seconds) and in the backstroke leg of the 200-yard medley relay with a split of 22.07. Fellow junior Tyler Ray also grabbed a pair of first-place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle and 200-yard medley relay. Ray clocked a 20.51 to take the top spot in the splash and dash.
Gal Groumi opened his 2024-25 season with a second-place finish in the 25-yard freestyle and 100-yard IM events with times of 10.03 and 49.98, respectively. The quartet of Groumi, Colin Geer, Bence Szabados and Jack Wilkening combined to win the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:00.60. Individually, Geer finished second in the 100-yard butterfly and the 25 free. Freshman Jon Jontvedt made a strong impression by winning the 100 free with a time of 49.82.
The Wolverines will compete in their first dual meet of the season when they welcome Wisconsin to Canham Natatorium in a two-day meet beginning Friday, Oct. 18 at 4 p.m.
