ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 16-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team tallied seven event wins to secure its first victory of the season, defeating No. 23 Wisconsin, 261-90, on Saturday (Oct. 19) in Canham Natatorium.
Ozan Kalafat, Tyler Ray, Bence Szabados and Jack Wilkening kicked off the morning session with a win in the 200-yard medley relay, finishing in 1:26.66 and beating Wisconsin's "A" team by nearly three seconds.
Eduardo Moraes claimed the first individual win of the day for Michigan, clocking 4:22.26 to take first in the 500-yard freestyle. Jon Jøntvedt finished second with a time of 4:26.30.
Colin Geer secured the victory in the 200-yard individual medley, touching the wall at 1:46.20. Eitan Ben-Shitrit and Lorne Wigginton completed the sweep with times of 1:47.46 and 1:47.89, respectively.
Gal Groumi took first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 44.04, followed by Szabados in second at 44.60. Wilkening earned the win in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 47.58, while Jacque Wenger and Inbar Danziger tied for second with times of 49.31.
Ray won the 200-yard butterfly, finishing in 1:45.56. Geer and Wigginton took second and third, respectively, to sweep the event. Michigan closed the meet with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay, as Geer, Groumi, Szabados, and Wilkening combined for a time of 2:55.95.
The Wolverines will return to action on Nov. 8 when they host the Oakland Golden Grizzlies at 3 p.m. in Canham Natatorium.
