The No. 14-ranked University of Michigan women's soccer team (7-2-3, 3-1-1 Big Ten) hosts rival Michigan State (8-3-2, 3-1-1 Big Ten) on Saturday (Oct. 7) at 7 p.m. at U-M Soccer Stadium. The match will be streamed live on B1G+. Both sides enter the match tied for second place in the Big Ten standings with 10 points. Tickets for the match are sold out for the first capacity crowd at U-M Soccer Stadium since the 2016 season.
Notes
• Michigan enters the week ranked No. 14 in the latest installment of the United Soccer Coaches poll, and are No. 19 in the NCAA RPI. The No. 14 ranking is U-M's highest of the season.
• The Wolverines are unbeaten at home with a 5-0-1 record. The last time U-M's put together an unblemished home streak to start a season came in the 2016 season, when the Wolverines went 7-0-3 through its first 10 matches.
• Senior Sammi Woods leads the team in goals with seven, ranking her fourth in the conference and No. 39 nationally. She is coming off a two-goal effort in the Wolverines' win over Maryland on Sunday (Oct. 1), giving her seven multi-goal games in her career, including two this season. The brace boosts her career total to 23 goals, making her the team's career active leader.
• Freshman Gabrielle Prych is tied 10th nationally among freshmen with five goals.
• Michigan and Michigan State are two of the five teams in the conference with 3-1-1 Big Ten records and tied for second in the league. Penn State sits atop the conference table with a 4-0-1 record (13 points) with the draw coming against U-M.
• Senior Sarah Bridenstine registered her second multi-assist match of the season against Maryland. She previously marked two helpers against Western Michigan (Sept. 10). Bridenstine, and junior defender Avery Peters are tied for the team lead in assists with four each and the duo has accounted for nearly half of U-M's 18 total assists on the season.
• The Wolverines have seven players from the state of Michigan in freshman Lilley Bosley, sophomore Sophie Homan and Bridenstine from Rochester, junior Avery Kalitta and senior Sammi Woods (Saline), junior Peters (Mason) and sophomore Abby Zugay (Ann Arbor).
• In the NCAA RPI, Michigan State (34) and future opponents Rutgers (55), Indiana (35), Iowa (40) and Ohio State (28) are all ranked in the top-60.
• Michigan leads 14-8-7 in the all-time series with the Spartans. U-M fell 2-0 in East Lansing in 2022 but had won the previous four matchups leading up. Over the course of the series, the two teams have seen 10 matches go to overtime, including four straight from 2007-10.
