Naomi Morrison (March 15)
Big Ten Specialist of the Week -- Junior Naomi Morrison was named the Big Ten Specialist of the Week after earning two 9.925s on the vault and floor exercise at No. 18 Georgia. Morrison won a share of the floor title against the Bulldogs and placed second on the vault. Heading into the postseason, Morrison ranks 17th nationally on floor and 27th on vault. Gabby Wilson (March 8)
Big Ten Gymnast of the Week -- Senior Gabby Wilson was named the Big Ten Gymnast of the Week for the first time in her career after tying for fifth in program history in the all-around with a score of 39.800 to help pace Michigan to a win over No. 1 Oklahoma. Along with her win in the all-around, Wilson also notched the outright floor exercise title with a 9.975 and shared the balance beam title with teammate Natalie Wojcik as she tied a career-high 9.975. Wilson tied a career-best 9.950 on the uneven bars and led Michigan with a 9.900 on vault (on which she is ranked No. 8 in the nation) against the Sooners. » Big Ten Release
Sierra Brooks (March 1)
Big Ten Gymnast of the Week -- Senior Sierra Brooks notched Big Ten Gymnast of the Week honors after winning three event titles ovr the course of two matches. She opened the weekend with a 9.925 on floor exercise to earn the win at the Big Five Meet (Feb. 24) before earning a share of the balance beam title with a 9.950 and the outright all-around title with a 39.675 at Nebraska (Feb. 27). The Plainfield, Ill., native ranks fourth nationally on vault, eighth on in the all-around and 11th on floor. This is the fifth career Big Ten Gymnast of the Week honor for Brooks. » Big Ten Release
Natalie Wojcik, Nicoletta Koulos (Feb. 15)
Big Ten Gymnast of the Week -- Graduate student Natalie Wojcik earned Big Ten Gymnast of the Week honors after earning a perfect 10 on the beam and clinching the all-around title against No. 19 Minnesota on Friday (Feb. 10). Wojcik's 10.0 on the balance beam was just the fourth in Michigan history with her first coming in 2021. The Douglasville, Pa., native also scored a 9.950 on floor exercise to finish second overall. She also won her first all-around title of the season in just her second time competing in all four events. Wojcik ranks third nationally on the beam, ninth in the all-around and 11th on the uneven bars. Big Ten Specialist of the Week -- Senior Nicoletta Koulos was named the Big Ten Specialist of the Week for the first time after having a career day against No. 19 Minnesota (Feb. 10). Koulos recorded a career-high 9.925 on the balance beam to help Michigan to a program record 49.625 before notching her second career-best of the evening with a 9.950 on floor exercise to tie for second overall. » Big Ten Release
Abby Heiskell (Feb. 8)
Big Ten Gymnast of the Week -- Graduate student Abby Heiskell earned Big Ten Gymnast of the Week honors after she posted the fifth-highest all-around score in program history at the Rutgers Quad Meet (Feb. 3). Heiskell scored a 39.800 behind a perfect 10 on vault and a career-high 9.950 on the balance beam for the win. The Charlotte, N.C., native also recorded matching 9.925s on the uneven bars and floor exercise to place second in both events. Sierra Brooks, Naomi Morrison (Feb. 1)
Big Ten Gymnast of the Week -- Senior Sierra Brooks earned her second all-around title of the season with four scores of 9.900 or higher against No. 11 Ohio State en route to her second Big Ten Gymnast of the Week nod of the 2023 season. Brooks scored a 39.725 in the all-around and finished second in all four individual events as she earned a 9.950 on both the vault and balance beam, scored a 9.925 on floor exercise and recorded a 9.900 on the uneven bars. Brooks ranks third nationally on the vault, ties for sixth on the floor and ranks 24th in the all-around. Big Ten Specialist of the Week -- Junior Naomi Morrison earned her first Big Ten Specialist of the Week nod after she captured two event titles against No. 11 Ohio State. Morrison had a near-perfect vault, scoring a 9.975 to lead the field before a 9.950 on the floor for her second individual win of the day. Big Ten Gymnast of Week: -- Graduate senior Abby Heiskell won the floor exercise title with a 9.950 and a piece of the all-around title with a score of 39.600 in Michigan's home opener against No. 9 Denver and Fisk. She also tied for second on the uneven bars, tied for fifth on balance beam and tied for sixth on vault. In week two of the season. Heiskell ranks sixth on floor and ninth in the all-around. Big Ten Specialist of the Week: Graduate senior Natalie Wojcik picked up her second straight Big Ten Specialist of the Week honor after winning the uneven bars title for the second consecutive week and earning the win on the beam against No. 9 Denver and Fisk. She scored her second 9.975 on the uneven bars and notched a 9.950 on the beam in her wins. Big Ten Gymnast of Week: Senior Sierra Brooks earned three scores of 9.950 at the Super 16 meet on Saturday (Jan. 7). Her 9.950 on floor exercise gave her a piece of the event title while she tied for second on vault and third on uneven bars. After one week of competition, Brooks leads the nation on the floor, while ranking second on vault and fourth on uneven bars. Abby Heiskell, Sierra Brooks (Dec. 14)
Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch, Preseason Poll -- Graduate student Abby Heiskell and senior Sierra Brooks were named 2023 Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch.
Heiskell returns for her fifth year after being a huge part of Michigan's all-around core in the 2022 season. She was a two-time WCGA All-America honoree and was the individual Big Ten all-around, uneven bars and floor exercise champion. Last season, Heiskell won eight individual event and all-around titles, including scoring her first career 10.0 on vault at Rutgers. Heiskell notched two second-team WCGA Regular Season All-America nods and captured first team All-Big Ten honors for the second time.
Brooks was both the Regional Gymnast of the Year and the Big Ten Gymnast of the Year after her impressive junior campaign in which she won 14 event titles and had two perfect 10s on vault. The Plainfield, Ill., native captured her third first-team All-Big Ten nod and was the individual champion on the vault with a perfect score. Brooks earned WCGA first team All-America honors on both vault and uneven bars, also while earning three WCGA Regular Season All-American nods in the all-around, vault and floor.
Michigan was picked to win the 2023 Big Ten title after it earned last year's Big Ten regular-season title and Big Ten Championship crown. After recording a program-best score of 198.525 and winning their 26th Big Ten title last season, the Wolverines return all but two routines from their 2021 national championship. » Big Ten Release
