
Michigan Ends Regular Season with Loss to Johns Hopkins

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 23-ranked University of Michigan women's lacrosse team fell 20-13 to Johns Hopkins on Saturday afternoon (April 24) at U-M Lacrosse Stadium in the regular-season finale.
Seniors Maggie Kane, Molly Garrett and Nadine Stewart recorded hat tricks, while Stewart had four points with one assist. Also adding four points on the afternoon was Erin Garvey, who had two goals and two assists, and Kaley Thompson added a goal and an assist for the Wolverines (3-8).
Senior Erin Daly posted her second straight game with eight draw control wins and Garrett added six. Defensively, Quinn Melidona had three caused turnovers and Morgan Whitaker had two. Melidona also picked up a team-high five ground balls, and both Garvey and Annabelle Burns had two.
Senior Arielle Weissman made the start in the cage and had four saves and Mariah Sweeney took the loss entering the game in the first half.
The Wolverines were the first to score before Johns Hopkins (7-5) matched Michigan's runs to tie the game on two occasions, including at 8 with under five minutes to play in the opening half. Kane scored the go-ahead goal with 3:54 remaining, but JHU ended the first half with two unanswered goals and took a 10-9 lead into the halftime break.
The Blue Jays opened the half with their third straight goal before Garrett and Stewart scored back-to-back goals to draw Michigan even at 11 with 23:55 remaining in the contest. Johns Hopkins went on a third three-goal run and took a 14-11 lead before Michigan called timeout with 18:33 left to play.
JHU rattled off six straight following the timeout and extended its lead to 20-11. The Wolverines tacked on two final goals in the closing five minutes but were unable to make a comeback.
Michigan will be the No. 7-seed in the Big Ten Tournament and play No. 2-seeded Maryland, Thursday April 29, in State College, Pa., on the campus of Penn State at 5 p.m.
