
Michigan Set to Travel South for Contest with Vanderbilt

The No. 13-ranked University of Michigan women's lacrosse team will head south to take on Vanderbilt on Wednesday (March 4) for a spring break contest. The Wolverines and Commodores will meet for just the second time in program history at 1 p.m. CST from Vanderbilt Soccer/Lacrosse Stadium.
A Brief Look at the Commodores
• Michigan and Vanderbilt meet for just the second time in the history of the two programs with the Commodores coming away with the 20-7 victory in the 2014 campaign in Ann Arbor.
• Vanderbilt heads into the midweek game with a 3-2 overall record, having fallen to Boston College and Louisville. Michigan defeated the Cardinals at home this season.
• Vanderbilt is outscoring its opponents, 73-64, this season, with a team-best 14 goals from Brianne Gross and 10 goals from Emily Mathewson.
• Gabby Fornia also has double-digit points for the Commodores with 19, including nine goals and 10 assists.
• In the cage, three goalies have seen time but Paige Gunning has been the go-to for Vanderbilt making 37 saves and carrying a .370 save percentage into the contest with the Wolverines.
Back on the Road
• Michigan heads out of the road for the third time this season, taking on Vanderbilt in the midweek spring break contest.
• The Wolverines are 1-1 on the road this year, defeating Jacksonville, 10-8, before falling to No. 16 USC in California.
• Michigan has scored 18 goals away from Ann Arbor, while also giving up 18.
Spreading the Wealth
• Michigan has spread the wealth with its points this season as nine players have recorded five or more points through the first five games.
• Juniors Caitlin Muir and Maggie Kane lead the Wolverine offense with 23 and 12 points, respectively. Muir has netted a team-best 12 goals and Kane has added 11.
• Seniors Molly Garrett, Lilly Grass and Chandler Kirby have all tallied eight points each, while sophomore Kaitlyn Mead has scored a career-best seven goals this year.
• Finally, sophomores Erin Garvey and Kaley Thompson have each scored six goals and Nadine Stewart has added five goals and one assist for the Wolverines.
• Michigan is outscoring opponents, 65-47, but has both scored and given up 18 goals in road contests.
• The Wolverines have also assisted on 24 of their goals compared to 10 assists for opponents.
Muir Continues to Stand Out
• Junior Caitlin Muir was the story of the game against Albany, scoring five of Michigan's 12 goals against the Great Danes.
• The junior attacker recorded her second straight hat trick and her third multi-goal game of the season for the Maize and Blue.
• Muir put all seven of her shot attempts on cage, marking the fourth straight game in which she has done so.
• Currently, Muir is tied for eighth in the Big Ten Conference with 2.50 goals per game and leads the Wolverines with 23 points (12 goals, 11 assists).
Thompson Finds Her Stride on Free Positions
• Sophomore transfer Kaley Thompson was clutch in free positions against the Great Danes, going 3-for-3.
• Thompson notched her first hat trick as a Wolverine with her three goals and her second multi-goal game as she scored two against Louisville.
• The sophomore midfielder is 4-for-4 on free-position attempts this season and has scored six goals in a Michigan jersey.
Garrett Becoming Unstoppable on the Draw
• Senior Molly Garrett has won a team-best 23 draw controls this season, ranking her third in the Big Ten Conference.
• Garrett has four games with four or more draw control wins, including two with six or more.
• The senior midfielder won a season-best eight draw controls against Albany to lead Michigan, which won 12 in all as a team.
