The No. 14-ranked University of Michigan women's lacrosse team will play its third straight home contest Saturday (Feb. 29) when it takes on Albany at noon at U-M Lacrosse Stadium. The game will be the first of two as the men's lacrosse team will battle St. John's at 3 p.m.
Who are the Great Danes?
• Michigan and Albany will play Saturday for the first time in the history of the two programs; Albany comes to town with a 1-1 overall record.
• The Great Danes were outscored, 24-15, in their first two games of the season and have a .674 shots-on-goal percentage.
• Albany has been beaten on the draw, 24-18, this season and has had 33 turnovers compared to opponents 28.
• Hailey Carroll leads the offense with eight points, including six goals, while Madison Conway has three goals for the Great Danes.
• On the draw, Clancy Rheude has won 10 of Albany's 18 draw-control victories and has picked up a team-best six ground balls.
• Imani Hedgeman has led the defense with three caused turnovers, while three players have picked up two.
• In the cage, Georgia Schneidereith has started both contests with 19 saves and a .487 save percentage.
Michigan at Home
• The Wolverines went 9-0 at U-M Lacrosse Stadium during the 2019 regular season and were 1-1 there while hosting the first and second round of the NCAA Tournament.
• Michigan is 30-28 in Ann Arbor and 17-4 at U-M Lacrosse Stadium after it opened in 2018.
• The Wolverines started off the 2020 home campaign with a weekend sweep over Louisville and No. 18 Colorado.
Kane Reaches New Level
• Junior Maggie Kane has found a new level of play in her third season as a Wolverine, already having reached double-digit goals (11), ground balls (10) and draw controls (19) in the season's first four games.
• Kane leads Michigan with 11 goals with hat tricks in the last three games, including a season-best four goals against No. 18 Colorado (Feb. 23).
• The midfielder also has been key on the draw, winning 19 draw controls so far this season and has notched four or more in three of the Wolverines' four contests.
• Defensively, Kane has five caused turnovers and has picked up 10 ground balls.
Muir Named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week
• Junior Caitlin Muir earned the Big Ten Player of the Week honor after she paced U-M to two home wins last week with a team-best seven assists, posting back-to-back games with three or more.
• Muir also scored four goals in two games and had a 1.000 shots-on-goal percentage, putting all 10 of her shots on cage.
• Muir added five ground balls on the week.
• She ranks 12th nationally with 11 assists and 29th in points with 18 in four games.
No Sophomore Slumps Here
• Sophomores Erin Garvey and Kaitlyn Mead have found their place within the Michigan offense in their second seasons.
• Mead ties for third on the team with seven points -- all goals -- while Garvey ranks sixth with six goals.
• After a slow start, Mead collected a career-best four goals against Louisville and followed up the performance with her second straight hat trick, tallying three against No. 18 Colorado.
• Garvey has upped her total each game as she scored one goal against No. 16 USC before following it up with a pair of goals against Louisville and her first-ever hat trick against No. 18 Colorado.
Weissman Has Career Day in Cage
• Starting three games and appearing in all four, junior Arielle Weissman is starting to feel a bit of comfort between the posts as Michigan's starting goalie.
• She has made eight saves or more in each of her three starts, including a career-best nine stops against No. 18 Colorado.
• The junior was clutch in free-position opportunities against the Buffaloes making two key saves.
• This season, Weissman has made 26 saves and holds a .491 save percentage.
Wolverine Offense Comes Alive in Home-Opening Weekend
• Michigan outscored its opponents, 35-18, in its home-opening weekend, recording the fifth 20-goal game in the history of the program against No. 18 Colorado.
• The Wolverines opened the weekend with a 15-11 win over Louisville before closing it out with a big 20-7 victory over the Buffaloes.
• U-M took 77 shots in its two contests at U-M Lacrosse Stadium and had seven hat tricks recorded between the two games.
• Against Louisville, Kaitlyn Mead scored four goals and Maggie Kane added three, while Kane scored four against No. 18 Colorado and Mead, Caitlin Muir, Molly Garrett and Erin Garvey all scored three against the Buffaloes.
