ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 24-ranked University of Michigan women's basketball team (11-4, 2-2 Big Ten) returns to Crisler Center to host No. 17-ranked Maryland (11-4, 2-2 Big Ten) as the teams wrap up their season series Sunday (Jan. 12) at noon. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN2.
• Michigan has been effective on the glass this season, averaging 39.5 boards per game with a +7.3 margin to rank second in the Big Ten. U-M also paces the Big Ten in rebounding defense, allowing just 32.1 rebounds per game to its opponents. Naz Hillmon is fourth in the conference in rebounding (8.7 rpg), with three other Wolverines grabbing at least five boards per game in Akienreh Johnson (5.3 rpg), Kayla Robbins (5.1 rpg) and Amy Dilk (5.4 rpg).
• Michigan and Maryland enter the contest as the top two teams in the Big Ten in rebounding margin. Maryland is at +8.3 for the season and leads the league in rebounding offense at 42.7, while Michigan leads in rebounding defense at 32.1. Maryland won the battle on the glass, 43-35, in the earlier meeting this season.
• Michigan and Maryland faced each other on Dec. 28 in College Park to begin Big Ten play, with the Terps taking a 70-55 win. U-M and the Terrapins will be the first teams in the conference to face each other for a second time. Since that Dec. 28 game, Michigan has faced Penn State, Michigan State and Ohio State, with Maryland squaring off against Northwestern, Ohio State and Iowa.
• Sophomore Naz Hillmon has turned in back-to-back double-doubles, most recently going for 24 points and 15 rebounds at Ohio State on Thursday (Jan. 9). Hillmon was 8-for-8 from the floor, becoming the fifth Wolverine in program history to be perfect from the floor with at least eight attempts. Hillmon had a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds in Michigan's 20-point win over Michigan State on Monday (Jan. 5). On the season, Hillmon has four double-doubles to rank fourth in the Big Ten. She is averaging 15.7 points per game on 58.1 percent shooting to go with 8.7 boards per contest.
• No. 17 Maryland (11-4, 2-2 B1G) is coming off a 66-61 loss at Iowa on Thursday (Jan. 9).The Terps are averaging 81.9 points per game on 45.5 percent shooting while allowing 51.8 points per game on 33.6 percent shooting. Maryland has five players scoring in double figures in Kaila Charles (14.5 ppg), Shakira Austin (11.9 ppg), Ashley Owusu (10.9 ppg), Taylor Mikesell (10.5 ppg) and Stephanie Jones (10.2 ppg). Michigan is looking to snap a three-game skid against Maryland.
